29 August 2025 | University of the Western Cape Organised by the Cape Higher Education Consortium (CHEC) and the Western Cape Government
The Cape Higher Education Consortium and the Western Cape Government convened a Community of Experts workshop, hosted by the University of the Western Cape, focused on AI Skills for Effective Service Delivery and Inclusive Access. The workshop brought together academic leaders, industry experts, government representatives and social entrepreneurs to examine how artificial intelligence is reshaping the workforce and how the region can respond.
Discussions spanned four core themes — the shifting landscape of work and skills, ethical considerations and the human element, educational transformation and the digital divide, and public-private partnerships and community engagement. Delegates worked through the critical challenges facing institutions as AI adoption outpaces their capacity to adapt, and helped shape a roadmap of practical interventions.
Workshop Report
The full report synthesises the expert discussions and sets out a roadmap of 26 interventions structured across immediate, short-term, medium-term and long-term horizons. These interventions are mapped to specific stakeholder groups — government, educational institutions, industry, and individuals and communities — and prioritised using an impact-versus-feasibility matrix to guide strategic decision-making.
